Lower Shoshone Tailwater

FLIES: Firebead sow bug, North fork Specials, Purple Prince, Jigged Prince, Walt’s Worm, Lucent prince, Prince, San Juan worm, Bloody Mary, Pheasant Tail, Midge pupa, Jigged Meathead, Mothers Day Caddis, Drag Queen, Sculpzilla, Mini Dungeon, Slump Buster, Thin Mint.
CONDITIONS: The flows have gone down and the Low Sho is fishing great! If you’re floating, you’ll notice some muddy water coming in from sage creek. I would be fishing nymph rigs and pitching streamers toward the bank. We’re also seeing some surface action on caddis. -
Bighorn \ Wind River

FLIES: poxyback sow, yum-yum sow, Herford’s magic, Various worm patterns and colors, trout pupa, thin mints, BWO’s, Midges, Firebead sow, purple and pink lucent perdigon’s, black Spanish bullet, san juan worms, Sculpzilla, Rusty Tombone, Montana Mouthwash, Yuk Bugs, and Natural Zirdles.
CONDITIONS: The flows on the Bighorn have increased but its still fishing well. Try using worms, eggs, baetis nymphs, sowbugs, scuds, and bigger rubberlegs patterns.. -
North Fork Shoshone River

CONDITIONS: The latest warm spell has the North Fork roaring. For the best conditions, I would fish the morning before the warm weather starts to melt more snow.
Don’t forget that the North Fork is closed to fishing from Gibbs Bridge to Newton Creek from April 1st to July 1st.

South Fork of the Shoshone

FLIES: North Fork Specials, Meat heads, Bloody Mary’s, Chubby cousins, Optic Nerves, Jigged prince, Lucent Prince, Walts Worm, Midges, BWO’s, March Brown’s, Skwala’s, and streamers
CONDITIONS: High and muddy at the moment. I would fish the mornings for the best possible conditions.
The gauge in the Valley School section of the South Fork is broken and the USGS isn’t planning on fixing it. This will greatly limit all anglers, floaters, and hikers to access advanced knowledge about river conditions before heading up river. Please contact the USGS and ask them to fix this gauge.

Upper Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone

CONDITIONS: Run off has begun so the river is high and dangerous. Fish can still be caught on nymph rigs when it clears in the morning. Be careful wading around.

East & West Newton Lakes

FLIES: Hares Ear, Pheasant Tails, Zebra midges, Ice cream cones, Balanced leeches, Thin mints, Slump busters, Callibaetis nymphs, Trout Pupa, Scuds, Soft hackled jigged nymphs, bowtie midge, Griffiths gnat, parachute adams.
CONDITIONS: The lakes have been fishing well lately. Midge pupa sunk deep has been the most consistent tactic. Also try slow stripping callibaetis nymphs or using balanced leeches off an indicator. Look for some surface action on midges and callibaetis.

Luce & Hogan Lakes

FLIES: Zebra midges, Ice cream cones, Balanced leeches, Thin mints, Slump busters, Callibaetis nymphs, Trout Pupa, Scuds, Soft hackled jigged nymphs, bowtie midge, Griffiths gnat, Hoppers, buggers.Be careful driving into these lakes if the road is wet. It can be very dangerous. Don’t push it or you might be stuck until it dries out.
CONDITIONS: Fishing very well right now. Midge nymphs and dries have been the most productive. Some callibaetis surface action and the damsel nymphs are just starting to move. -
Upper & Lower Sunshine Reservoirs

CONDITIONS: Both lakes have iced out and are starting to fish well. Try using some buggers and midge pupa.
